Sophie

This is Sophie
She is a china head doll. She is unusual in that she has a toddler type cloth body. All told she is 27 inches tall (the head is about 7 inches tall).

she is from the end of the 1800s and is dressed in a fine cotton and lace baby dress and slip that probably belonged to a real child at some time. Her body is of cotton sateen and her hands are of leather, or should I say hand, as her left hand and arm appear to have been chewed of by a small dog or something similar, at some point in time. The dress and slip were also chewed and had holes and stains in them from the chewing.
The left sleeve was almost totally destroyed.

I cleaned the dress and then stabilized the fabric and lace on similar light cotton fabric and net and now she is dressed again.

Lace

Here is a little project I have been working on. I try to recreate lace that I see in photographs of old things. In this case it was on the clothing of an old doll.
My recreation of the knitted lace,
it is knitted in size 30 DMC Cebelia cotton on size
on 6/0 (000000) (0.7mm) steel needles
from this photo ( the lace in the photo may be of smaller thread) I don't have a scale for this lace.
(I have lost the information on the photo of the old doll so if anyone recognizes it could you please contact me so that I can acknowledge the person who took the photo? )

Vintage plant pictures

Here are some pictures of the Horseradish and the Rhubarb that I brought back from my dad's birthplace. They have been growing there since my grandmother and great grandmother grew them. My dad's brother and sister in law have lived in the house since the late 40's and have been growing and using them all that time.
Horse radish leaves above
 rhubarb on the 23rd
and rhubarb on the 24th. amazing growth in one day!!

Vintage plant update

well it looks like the rhubarb and the horseradish have taken to the place I planted them.
Three of the rhubarb crowns have put up new leaves already. Two of the HR roots have put up new leaves also. Yaaay
The raspberry canes have dried up and gotten crispy but I don't know if the roots have survived so we shall see. ( Crossing fingers)
I may have pictures tomorrow

Really Vintage

Oh yaay!! Talk about vintage! I recently got to visit my aunt who still lives in the house my dad was born and raised in. My aunt and late uncle have lived in the house since the late 40s. Well she let me take some rhubarb plants, some raspberry canes, and some horseradish roots for my garden, that she says have been growing there since my dad was living there (30s to 40s) woooo hooooo. Now I hope I can get them to grow!!!

Thaareeeeeee more

Started 3 more little critters in tan. so I will be making little tan toesies tomorrow probably.
Doggie sleepover is going as expected.

Bonnie is having a sleepover tonight

Bonnie, my old spaniel girl (in the picture with Honey the yellow lab) is having her "pack" over for a sleepover tonight. Her pack consists of her two half-aunts (my folks two dogs, Loocy and Taz) and a cousin (my sister's yellow lab Honey). She is going to be soooo excited. Only Honey has stayed here with her overnight before.
Hmmm I wonder if they will want to do each other's hair and nails? and watch scary movies? (Old yeller and Cujo? or "a night at the vets"?) LOL
well they might get snacks though.
The cats are gonna LOOOOVE this. hahahahahah

Guess what!!

Guess who is coming to live at MY house!!!!
Yaaayyyy!!!!

Fire

There is an extensive wildfire gong on very near here. So far I am out of the evac area but just barely. They are evacuating people to the high school just over the hill from me so that sounds safe. The actual closed/evac area starts less than a tenth of a mile from my house and goes over the hill toward
Denver. over 4000 acres burned so far and two dead. Several homes burned. Sigh.
Wildfire firefighters are on their way from several states including Montana.
So last night I was packing things in case I had to evac. Priorities go from Furries first (cats and dog), with some supplies for them (cage/kennel in the car), then important papers, dolls in progress, computer and external memory, big box of knitting needles/crochet hooks, antiques needles and hooks, Jan Conwell dolls, small box with abjd's and a couple of odd dolls, then my clothes, jewelry and meds. LOL what does that show you about me???
